Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Hope everyone is going to have some fun today. Last night I went out with friends and celebrated my match at PF Chang's. Their salt and pepper prawns are my absolute favorite!! I decided not to go to the "all you can drink" 4th year med student party last night, so I was in bed by midnight. Just like everyday this week, I woke up at 3am and couldn't sleep. Finally at 4:30, I took some benadryl, knowing I would pay for it later. And I did. My alarm went off and I was soooo sleepy. I knew my attending wouldn't care if I didn't show up this morning, so I slept in. I did make an appearance for noon lecture, but the radiology resident stood us up, so I came home. Now I'm getting ready to go to a party that the anesthesia department is having tonight for all the 4th year students who will be joining them in July. I'm supposed to actually work in the OR's tonight setting up the anesthesia cart, but our head extern told me not to worry about it. The party is more important. "Kewl" as Cartman would say.

So speaking of South Park, is anyone else upset that Isiaac Hayes is leaving South Park? Chef is my favorite character and I'm really distraught about it.

That's about all. Tomorrow I'm going to cross over into the dark side and buy the new Mac mini. I'd planned on getting one if I matched at my first choice (and now I don't have to spend extra money moving).

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I got my #1 choice!!

I am soooo relieved and happy!! When we got to the party, we each got a rolled up t-shirt with our name on a card. At noon, we were given a marker to scribble over the card, and our match was revealed. At first, all I uncovered was "anesthesiology" and was confused why it didn't have at what school. I was so nervous and finally just started scribbling all over the card and the school was listed underneath. Yay!!! The long wait is finally over.

Ooooooo the wait is killing me!

Yay! I matched!

What a relief to finally know! I was as nervous as I thought I would be. I was sitting there with my attending trying to pay attention to the chest films he was showing me, waiting for 11am when the results would be out. 11am came and went and I was too chicken to check. Finally at 11:15 I went in the hall to call my boyfriend to check the website (I had no computer access). To make matters worse, I lost my cell connection to him and had to wander around the hallway until I got a good connection. THEN, the website was slow since so many people around the country were checking it at the same time. That just made me more nervous! Anyway, too make a long story short, he finally got on and told me I matched. I found out this afternoon that there are only 13 anesthesia positions in the entire country that are still open. I knew this year would be competitive, but that is crazy! Percentage wise, there are more radiology positions available this year than anesthesia. Historically, radiology has been very tough to get into. It still is, but now I guess anesthesia needs to be added to that list. Now I just have to wait 3 more days to find out where I matched.

Yay, I don't have to scramble tomorrow!!

Yikes, tomorrow I find out if I matched ANYWHERE and I am on pins and needles. I just know tomorrow at 11am when I check the website, it will take forever to pull up, and I'll be near throwing up with nervousness. Waiting is th worst. I don't even want to think about what life will be like for the next 3 days if I find out I don't match. It will be chaos. Tuesday I'll have to meet with the Dean, then all afternoon, I'll have to call all the programs individually, fax them my CV, interview on the phone, and pray somebody picks me up. With my luck, I'll end up in some far corner of the world, perhaps in some hurricane destroyed Hell. So for today, I'll just hope I matched. Why borrow trouble?

My weekend was pretty low key. I had to work Friday night setting up the anesthesia carts at my school's hospital. Saturday, my boyfriend and I hung out. We were supposed to go to Macaroni Grill for dinner with friends, then go kareoke at some bar but all that changed because our friend's best friend's toddler was hospitalized with RSV and she wanted to be with her, and I came down with some mysterious GI complaint that kept me in bed a couple of hours. I love Macaroni Grill, too. So sad. After I felt better, my boyfriend and I drove out to our favorite Sonic at the far edge of town and ate chicken sandwiches and looked out at the dark prairie and talked. I love times like those. It was so quiet and perfect.

Not much going on today. I skipped church and slept in. I just got finished walking 3 miles and later we'll go have an early dinner. My 2 week vacation is officially over.
